โครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนภาษาและวัฒนธรรมนานาชาติ เป็นโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนที่รัฐบาลในหลายประเทศร่วมมือกันจัดขึ้นเพื่อเปิดโอกาสให้นักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาที่มีความสนใจในการเรียนรู้ความแตกต่างของภาษาและวัฒนธรรมในต่างประเทศได้มีโอกาสเข้าร่วมเดินทางเพื่อเข้าพักอาศัยกับครอบครัวชาวท้องถิ่นและเรียนรู้ผ่านประสบการณ์การเรียนจากการเข้าเรียนในห้องเรียนเป็นระยะเวลา 1 ปีการศึกษา โดยสามารถเทียบเรียนหน่วยกิตเพื่อเป็นตัวเลือกให้นักเรียนไม่จำเป็นต้องกลับมาเรียนซ้ำชั้นในประเทศของตนเองแต่อย่างใด

องค์กรนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนในต่างประเทศจะส่งเจ้าหน้าที่ประสานงานในแต่ละท้องถิ่นทำหน้าที่ในการจัดหา และคัดสรรครอบครัวอาสาสมัครมาทำหน้าที่โฮสแฟมิลี่ให้กับนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนโดยโฮสแฟมิลี่นั้น ไม่ได้รับค่าตอบแทนจากองค์กรนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนในต่างประเทศ ครอบครัวโฮสแฟมิลี่ที่เข้าร่วมกับองค์กรจึงเป็นผู้ที่มีความสนใจที่อยากจะแลกเปลี่ยนและเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่างอย่างแท้จริง
ก่อนที่จะได้มาเป็นโฮสแฟมิลี่ของโครงการฯ ได้นั้น โฮสแฟมิลี่ทุกครอบครัวจะต้องผ่านการตรวจสอบอย่างละเอียด สมาชิกทุกคนในบ้านที่มีอายุ 16 ปีขึ้นไป ต้องถูกผ่านการตรวจสอบประวัติอาชญากรรม (Criminal Background Check) เพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าบุคคล และสภาพแวดล้อมภายในบ้านได้มีความเหมาะสมในการดูแลนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่โครงการฯ ให้ความใส่ใจ และพิถีพิถันในการเลือกโฮสแฟมิลี่เป็นอย่างมาก เพื่อให้แน่ใจว่านักเรียนที่เข้าร่วมโครงการฯ จะได้สัมผัสถึงความอบอุ่น เหมือนได้อยู่บ้านกับครอบครัวจริงๆ
การสนับสนุนด้านกีฬา
ความทางถนัดด้านกีฬาในต่างประเทศถือว่าเป็นพรสวรรค์อย่างหนึ่งที่โรงเรียนผลักดันให้นักเรียนมีส่วนร่วม หากผู้เข้าร่วมโครงการมีความสนใจในด้านกีฬาเป็นพิเศษ กรุณาใส่รายละเอียดในใบสมัครอย่างละเอียดเพื่อที่องค์กรนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนในต่างประเทศจะช่วยจัดหาโรงเรียนที่มีการจัดสรรอย่างเหมาะสมตามรายละเอียดในใบสมัครของนักเรียน
กิจกรรมพิเศษระหว่างโรงเรียน
โรงเรียนในต่างประเทศจะมีการเข้าค่ายค้างคืนหรือทัศนศึกษานอกสถานที่ตามหลักสูตรและงบประมาณในปีการศึกษานั้น หากมีการจัดกิจกรรมพิเศษขึ้น ผู้ปกครองในประเทศไทยจะได้รับแจ้งผ่านอีเมล์และต้องใบอนุญาตเพื่อให้นักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่างๆได้ตามโอกาสนั้นๆ ทั้งนี้การจัดกิจกรรมพิเศษจะอยู่ในความดูแลของเจ้าหน้าที่ประสานงานของโครงการอย่างใกล้ชิด

โรงเรียน
โรงเรียนในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาจัดระบบการเรียน ระดับมัธยมศึกษาจะเป็นการเรียนที่ใช้ระยะเวลา 4 ปี โดยนับตั้งแต่ ม.3 – ม.6 เปิดรับนักเรียนอายุ 14 – 18 ปี แบ่งเป็น 3 ระบบใหญ่ๆ คือ โรงเรียนรัฐบาล (Public High School, โรงเรียนเอกชน (Private High School), โรงเรียนประจำ (Boarding School) และอีกหนึ่งโรงเรียนทางเลือก คือ Charter School ซึ่งเป็นโรงเรียนในกำกับของรัฐบาลที่เอื้อประโยชน์ให้นักเรียน ครู โรงเรียน และผู้ปกครองเข้ามามีบทบาทในการจัดรูปแบบการเรียนการสอน ซึ่งนักเรียนนักเรียนทุกคนในระดับมัธยมศึกษาต้องเรียนวิชาบังคับ 4 วิชา ตามกฎของรัฐบาล มีวิชาบังคับพื้นฐาน คือ ภาษาอังกฤษ คณิตศาสตร์ วิทยาศาสตร์ สังคมศึกษา และอาจต้องเรียนภาษาต่างประเทศ หรือพลศึกษาด้วย ในประเทศอื่นๆจะมีระบบการเรียนที่คล้ายคลึง กับประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา แต่อาจจะแตกต่างในเรื่องของชื่อเรียกวิชาเรียน และกิจกรรมบังคับ

โครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยน เกิดขึ้นได้จากการทำงานของหลากหลายหน่วยงาน ซึ่งแต่ละหน่วยงานมีหน้าที่และความรับผิดชอบอันต่างกัน ดังต่อไปนี้

โดยปกติแล้วรัฐบาลจะเป็นผู้ผ่านร่างกฎหมายเฉพาะ เพื่อจัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนขึ้นเพื่อเป็นศูนย์กลางให้หน่วยงาน หรือกระทรวงต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนสามารถรับทราบเงื่อนไขและแนวทางปฏิบัติเพื่อควบคุม และดูแลมาตรฐานของการจัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนให้เป็นไปอย่างถูกต้องตามวัตถุประสงค์ของโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยน
องค์กรจัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนประจำประเทศต้นทาง
องค์กรพิเศษที่ผ่านการตรวจสอบและได้รับอนุญาตให้เป็นผู้จัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนขึ้น ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ผู้จัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนคือผู้มีสิทธิออกเอกสารรับรองวีซ่านักเรียนให้กับนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนที่เข้าร่วมโครงการทุกคน ดังนั้นจะเห็นได้ว่า การดำเนินการของผู้จัดโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนและรัฐบาลประจำประเทศนั้นๆจะดำเนินการบริหารจัดการโครงการนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนกันอย่างใกล้ชิดเพื่อสนองนโยบายการจัดโครงการให้สำเร็จลุล่วงตามวัตถุประสงค์การจัดโครงการอย่างแท้จริง
